For the past 12 years I have been networking (making connections) in the SAP and IT communities; forging solid relationships. When I moved into Business Development, my job was essentially making connections by pairing customers who needed some solution with providers I knew or worked with to meet the need. Many times I found myself saying to a client or prospect, “I know a guy/gal.”
Now that I’m on my own, I am no longer a captive agent. I can freely connect anyone with a need to anyone with a solution, and that’s my business plan. Sometimes the solution comes from me; sometimes from a partner or colleague. So, I am embracing the idea that if I help enough people find each other, I will be successful as well.

Making a good connection in business is like pairing a great wine with dinner. Networking can be difficult. There should be an easier way to introduce someone with a problem to someone with a solution to it. But, it has to be the right person, the right fit; just like the right wine.
I have often played the part of a matchmaker in this way, even translating the technical to non-technical people. Shepherding the client through the solution process and functioning as their advocate (even swapping out partners early on who were not the right fit). This is my humble attempt at creating an SAP and/or IT marketplace.
